Frequently Asked Questions (currently updating - stay tuned!)
What are your sanitation practices?
We take plant health very seriously! The American Dahlia Society reports that more than 80% of dahlia varieties may carry dormant viruses, so we take many precautions and are constantly monitoring our plants for signs of disease. There is no way to always remain disease free (bugs, etc.) but we are always learning better practices and methods to keep our plants as healthy as possible.
We sanitize between plants while harvesting blooms with a 10% bleach solution for at least 10 minutes while rotating our snips, and always sanitize between tuber dividing and all season long we monitor our fields for unhealthy looking plants and pull and toss them immediately.
We do not do virus testing at this time, but do immediately dispose of anything suspicious. Order at your own risk.
What are your shipping policies? When will I receive my tubers?
All shipped orders, regardless of quantity or order total, will be $11 shipped through USPS Priority Mail.
In order to keep shipping costs as low as possible for everyone, packaging will be adequate for protecting your order, but nothing fancy.
We do offer combined shipping on multiple orders as long as some of your items haven't already shipped. For subsequent orders only, please use code MORETUBERS at checkout as many times as you would like until your order ships and email us your order numbers (at wrenstems@gmail.com) so that we can make sure to put them together! You must pay the $11 shipping charge on your first order.
For customers who pre-ordered tubers in our Fall 2025 pre-sale for fulfillment this spring, you may use code MORETUBERS if you would like to order more and we will combine the shipping with your previous order.
We will be shipping from our home in southeast Michigan in waves from warmest states to coldest states starting in mid-March and ending by late-April. If you would like us to attempt to get them to you sooner, please email us and we will try to accomodate. We do not use heating packs at this time, so you must be comfortable with the temperatures on route from us to you.
Local pickup will be available the first week of May for those local to us and who have selected the Pickup option at checkout. We are located about 15 minutes north of downtown Ann Arbor, MI. Please email us at wrenstems@gmail.com to coordinate.
What if I have issues with my order?
ISSUES:
If you have any issue at all with your order please email us immediately (within 48 hours of delivery time stamp of package) and we will absolutely make it right. Please allow us the chance to fix the issue before posting to social media.
Mislabels also can happen, though we make every attempt to prevent this. We keep everything as organized and labeled as possible and anything we aren't certain of will be labeled a mystery tuber. Please let us know of any mislabels and we will either refund or replace the next season (if it is a variety we are still growing). If a sprout on your tuber has broken off during transit, don't panic; a new sprout (or sprouts) will grow right next to it!
When should I plant my dahlia tubers?
Plant dahlia tubers after the last frost and when soil temperatures consistently reach at least 60°F
How do I care for my dahlia plants?
Do you offer You-Pick flowers?
We DO NOT offer You-Pick flowers for sanitary reasons.
To keep all of our plants healthy and reduce the risk of spreading disease, we use clean snips between each plant. Allowing You-Pick would complicate the sanitation process and introduce additional risk of contamination, so we will take care of harvesting the flowers for you :)
If you are interested in DIY florals, you can order bulk buckets of flowers from us (mixed colors or a specific color pallet of your choosing) that we will cut and provide for you to arrange (see the tab for Bulk DIY Flowers for additional details).
Are you open to the public to come take pictures of/with your flowers?
At this time, we are NOT open to the public. We are on private property and do not have the means to accomodate requests for photoshoots. Please reach out directly if you have further questions.
